Welcome to the wiki for English 1000, section 6, "Student Ecology & Cultural Literacy" with Aaron Harms.

For Our particular Syllabus, feel free to click on it where it occurs in this sentence. You can also go directly to the pages for Paper 1, Paper 2, and Paper 3. Particularly for the first paper, but also at any time during the semester (and beyond!), you may want to visit the videos page, where I've posted several YouTube videos. You also have access to the readings page, where you'll find links to other materials for the course, and the schedule for English 1000 in the Summer of 2008, for daily assignments. There's also a Blog (in lieu of a discussion board) for more responses to other questions.

Wikis are public spaces on the web that we can all contribute to and edit. Everything posted on these spaces can be read and responded to by anyone who chooses to join our sites. This technology allows for both an (almost) paperless class, as well as provides a space for (almost again) instant communication. To that end, you will be expected to participate regularly, in and out of class. As the semester progresses, please feel free to email me your questions or come see me during my office hours if you are having problems using or accessing the course site.

Building Your Own Pages

Student pages begin here. Each of you will have a beginning point on what will become a complex map of ideas, notes, and commentary. Our beginning point on this wiki is simply our names. Each additional entry will "link" from the previous entry in some way.

1. Make an account for yourself. You can use a name other than your "real" name. If you wish to remain anonymous, use this option. Nobody in the online world will ever know it is you. Your postings will not have your real name identified with them!

2. Edit a page. Choose "edit" at the top of any page you wish to change, add to, or revise.

3. Write. The buttons at the top of the page give you several options, like bold, italics, or adding an image.

4. In order to add an external link (to a webpage), choose the "external link" button that looks like a globe.

5. In order to create a new page on the wiki:

     - Highlight whatever word you want to act as a link
     - Click on the "internal link" button" that looks like underlined letters. 
     - Save your work and return to the newly updated page.
     - Click on the brand new link and start editing!
