Lesson 1: Understanding Style
This lesson begins by telling us the two principles of this book; "it's good to write clearly and anyone can do it". We read alot of unclear writing that because of the extended and complex senteces we mistake for deep thinking. This is one reason that writers do write unclearly sometimes, to indicate deep thinking to the reader. Another reason for unclear writeing is because the writer believes that writeing must be error free and very in-depth. The biggest reason people write unclearly is subcontious. We read into what we want the reader to get out of it and our writing ends up clearer to us than it does our audience. Regardless of the reason for unclear writing, it is a cycle. We read complex writing about a subject and it confuses us, but we assume it indicates deep thinking, so we try to write in the same way. Makeing the writeing on the subject we are already confused about even more confusing. One way to help one get away from unclear writing is keeping in mind that a draft is just that, a draft. When writing a first draft you should just get your ideas written as quickly as possible, then go back and organize and critic them.
--You should check in with the Style Responses assignment for formatting and structure. This seems to only address the summary part. Also, some proofreading, perhaps the word spellchecker, since the wiki doesn't provide one, to my knowledge.
