Still working paper 3

After my research I found out that most students in the summer program are not provided with computer in their class for their use. That can cause a problem with some students. SOme students dont have the funds to buy them a computer so they rely on what the school has for them.

Both of my summer school classes have computers for every student in the class to use. I feel that for the most part that for the summer MU does a good job with giving the students technology. I feel that the university does a good job with getting all of their student technology use. There wireless Internet all through the campus. The University has Tiger tech for when if something happens to your computer or laptop you can go get it fixed. At tiger tech you can also go buy you a laptop for yourself self if you need one. There are computer lab on campus were you can go and use the computer to do your work. You can go to the library and check out a laptop for your self so you so you don't have to go to the computer lab.

Some things that the university might fall short of are providing all students with some kind of laptop. Or providing students with a gadget so they are better prepared for school. After some of my research I found out that not all students came to the university with a laptop. Some students wasn't fortune enough to have one so they have to rely of the university for computer us. So in the future students could be provided with laptop might feel better about attending the University and this might even get more people interested in it also.

Other issue that might be useful is not having the summer math course in the tap program all online. Once you start to get into the school year your advanced math classes are not going to be online. For some students making that change might be a little different because you are use to what you had been doing in the summer class. That change that you as a student have to go through might not be a good thing for some students. With having that summer class you might think that it going to always be like that. As you have to change it might make the class a little harder because what you have had in the past. It's not a bad thing that the summer class is online. But it's that it might make it a little difficult for some students. I say that maybe all of it shouldn't be online not only for the change so students do just rely on the Internet

I don't mind that the University gives me or another student computers in the class for every student. But I do feel that this can be a disadvantage to some people. If in summer school I have a computer in every class then I might get too use to that. Once the fall starts I might be a little lost to begin with because I was always provided with a computer so I never brought mine. Or as a summer student I never bought one because I figured that the university was going to provide the students with computers in every class.

A great start in terms of finding an initial issue topic to target in the third paper. I’m in the TAP program myself and I do not see the issue, because I have the benefit of having a computer in both of my classes, but I bring my laptop to class everyday because that happens to be where all my work is saved on. I agree on terms that the summer session does a very well job on providing all students with some sort of technology in the classroom, and the fact that the entire campus (for the most part) is covered by wireless internet or Tiger Net. Those are very great points on describing what Mizzou does well in terms of technology and providing a sense of cultural literacy and competence.

How does arguments and Mizzou itself relate to Wesch’s videos, and web 2.0? How does your argument relate in terms of your student ecology? You did a well job on describing what MU does well and where it falls short but can you describe what changes need to be made to get rid of that issue? I see where you mention that the school could provide each student that enrolls in the new semester with a brand new laptop, but in your words how does this fix the issue? When you said that the fall semester doesn’t use computers in most of their classes, that that may provide a problem with the students that have been ‘spoiled’ with the convenience of technology in ever y classroom in the summer session. The fact neither you nor me have experienced the fall semester, we cannot determine what goes on in the fall semester. All we can do is rely on hearsay for our research. It sounds like your argument is that MU does a fairly well job on providing students with the technology needed to become culturally literate and competent. Though you do provide some areas of interest that MU could improve on, like providing students with new computers as sort of a ‘gift’ for enrolling. You also have to consider that some course do not need the use of a computer. At the same time, it should be the University’s obligation to provide each and every student with what is needed to succeed at this University. If the University needs technology then the University should provide it. I think that is the issue you are trying to get across, you need to make that more clear.

I’m just a little confused on what type of ‘point’ you are trying to get across, though you do have a lot of really neat arguments. Where is your research and references? You said you’re not done so I assume you haven’t got that far yet. There are a few grammatical errors but for the most part you have a very good skeleton for you r third paper.-Jessica A. Weber
