Media Wikis

The wiki may seem like a weird idea - a writing space anyone can edit/a writing space made up of interconnected pages/a writing space that saves all of its pages' versions/a writing space that covers a lot of pages (and not just one) for each idea - it is actually an idea attractive to a variety of institutions, organizations, groups, and people for these very reasons. The popularity of wikis seems to stem from a desire to do this kind of writing: to be able to edit at any time, to be able to make connections to others' work, to be able to arrange work in new ways, to be able to work with more than one version of a piece of writing.

The rationale for using wikis at The University of Missouri-Columbia, then, is not to be weird or odd, but rather to try and figure out why others find this type of writing space so attractive as well as to figure how we, too, can use it for new kinds of purposes.

Because wikis offer other kinds of writing opportunities print does not, many people are using them for a variety of purposes. Its useful to read other usages. If you discover a wiki you'd like listed here, please add it.
