Literacy for Malcolm X is a means of communication, in order for Malcolm to write letters to Elijah Mohammad that convey his message, He has to write to the level of Elijah's understanding.

Cultural Literacy is to me, the understanding of attitudes, customs, and beliefs of different groups enough to communicate and interpret various forms of language and art.

as defined by Webster cultural literacy: knowledge of history, contributions, and perspectives of different cultural groups, including one's own group, necessary for understanding of reading, writing, and other media
