Prospectus

The literacy of foreign travel and study abroad is important to me because I have a passion for traveling. Every opportunity I have to go somewhere out of the country I take advantage of. Due to this passion I plan to study abroad in the near future and so it’s important that I am literate on the topic in order to be prepared for my travels. After much research through scholarly articles, research studies, and even information from my own memory and experiences, I understand how some would still have questions unanswered. I still would be curious in actual costs of particular study abroad programs, more specific information on differences between our culture and possible study abroad cultures, and also would be interested in what countries have the best study abroad programs as far as being prepared for my future and also to reduce stress while abroad. In the final project I hope to make connections between my previous projects and also to discover answers to the unanswered questions.

I feel that many people other than myself would find this literacy important. Many of my peers are interested in studying abroad and are currently not literate on the topic. Also my family, and even people in my neighborhood should be literate on the topic because they may travel internationally and not know everything that is necessary, or they may have a relative that is studying abroad and it’s important for them to understand what that family member is engaging in.

I feel that other college students would benefit the most from my project. This is because not only will many students travel internationally during their lives, but also a common consideration for many college students is studying abroad. Through studying my research they would better understand that being literate on traveling and studying abroad will enable them to take part in those adventures without worrying and they will be better prepared for what they will experience. It will also enable them to have a more enjoyable trip since they were literate on the topic before leaving home. I feel that in the future the number of college students taking part in a study abroad program will continue to increase due to the wonderful experience it entails, and also because with the job market currently suffering a study abroad experience will set a student apart from their peers when entering the job market.
