Why are some articles some nationalistic?

In an article about how scientists in the US discovered a super steel for a fusion reactor the title was “U.S. Beats Britain in race to Fusion Super Steel.”  The author of this article seems to believe that science is a competition between nations, that every country is trying to outdo the other.  I believe this should not be the case, and I believe that this is not the case within the minds of scientists.  While their is competition between different scientists and oftentimes in industry to create better products.  This competion is not nationalistic in nature and to develope something anywhere is to develope it everywhere.

What could be a reason for numerous type-o’s in an article? In some articles I have read I can identify more type-o’s than in others.  There are most likely several reasons why one article will have more type-o’s than another, such as the author of the article or the speed at which someone wanted the article to be published.  Something I have noticed about these articles is that they are usually ones that have “breaking news” so they probably were rushed to be published.  Another reason is that, with online news postings, the article can be edited after being posted.  Often the type-o’s will be fixed a few hours after the article was posted.

I read an article in a green tech blog which was well written and informative.   The article contained a lot of facts and quotes from people involved in the solar power industry.  It did a good job of explaining how solar cells installed at a corporation or business can make a profit for the company, even though a first glance at the numbers would show otherwise.  The author was three examples of cases where solar energy has proven to be profitable to the buyer of the solar arrays and supported these claims with factual dollar amounts.

What was the goal of the author who wrote the article about the Chinese space shuttle launch before the event acually occured? On Sept 25 a Chinese news site posted an article about the recent successful launch of a long-awaited space mission.  The article included qoutes from the launch officials and discriptions of the launch vehicle flying.  However the space mission had not even occured yet! There are a number of possible reasons why the article had been written ahead of time.  It is possible the the news site was not expecting to send a reporter to the launch site, but this seems unlikely considering the site was run by the countries official news agency.  So the author must have been assigned to create an article about the launch that  painted the launch as a heroic and romantic event.  I only read a short translated excerpt from the article, but it seemed especially idealistic compared to what may be read in American journalism

What does the title of this article say about the authors support of wind/solar energy?  The title of the article is “Carbon Breakthrough Promises Better Solar, Wind Storage.”  The article explains the principles behind a new type of ultra-capacitor that can store up to twice as much as current commercially available ultra-capacitors.  The information about the research and quotes from the researcher’s do not mention using the technology to store power generated by wind or solar generators.  The author introduced this idea on his own at the end of the article saying “The U.S. Department of Energy has said advancing storage technologies is one of the most pressing needs of the renewable resource industry.”  While he does go on in the article to say that the new technology could be used to power electric/hybrid vehicles to give them a longer range or increase the battery life for a variety of electronic devices, these items were not mentioned in the title of the article.  This occurance leads one to believe that the author strongly supports wind/solar energy generation.

What elements (code) of this article reflect the characteristics of the general readership of the site?

This science article is written to inform readers about the progress of NASA’s new Ares 1 rocket.   The article is very short and to the point with many facts qouted from a main article from NASA.  It seems that the author knows the general mindframe of most of the potential readers of the article, so he is feeding information to them that will make for a good discussion in the comments section below the article.  For instance at the end of the article he briefly mentions that the events in Georgia have changed the US’s faith in letting the Russian space agency ferry NASA’s people and equipment into space during the NASA’s down time between when the shuttle ends its service and when Ares 1 is ready to do missions.  This comment seems to be out of place from the rest of the article which is factual with a lot of information.  The author seems to be saying “discuss this please.” It is possible that the author did not think the discussion about his article will be very lively so he added this comment in order to have a more active comments section, which happens to be a large part of this websites appeal.

http://kara.allthingsd.com/20080901/heres-the-google-chrome-browser-comic-book-hey-microsoft-kaa-pow/What was Google’s goal when they decided to describe their new browser with a comic stripe?A web browser is a major staple of everyone’s computer activities, so when Google was ready to release there own version of a web browser they wanted to make potential users feel that changing something as important as there browser would not just be a leap into the dark and unknown.  The people at Google wanted to inform potential users of, not only the fact that the browser existed, but of its capabilities.  However they also needed a way to entice potential users to inform themselves because it is easy to make information availible to people, the difficult is getting the people to access and read that information.  That is where the comic book comes into play.  The comic book is an attractive way to draw people in and keep them engaged while informing them of their new product.  I, personally, found that the comic book was much more engaging than a written description of the browser with a general list of features.
