Free Dr. Pepper

November 21st, 2008 by mtm7d3

I recently read an article online about this past election, and how Dr. Pepper is tied to the election more than people thought it would. According to the CEO of Dr. Pepper / Snapple group the company will start this Sunday advertising free coupons on their website for a free twenty ounce Dr. Pepper. The reason behind this great offer is due to newly elected President Barack Obama, the company made a pledge that if Barack won the election they would offer free Dr. Pepper to the world. The setup of this article is really interesting I was hooked from the beginning. As a reader and consumer of Dr. Pepper I believe that this offer is great for the company and shows how much they want change in America.

Change based on more than just color

November 14th, 2008 by mtm7d3

I recently read an article on how people are looking at the newly elected president to bring change to America that isn’t solely based on race. People of different races throughout the United States voted for Obama with a vision in the back of their head about change in America, according to this article change is going to happen in a variety of ways, that will benefit the white people and people of color. The set up of this article is very appealing to the reader, because it gives you facts about Obama’s life and how he has used events throughout his life to gather ideas and make this “so-called” change for America slogan. The author questions how Obama is going to approach his presidency when the topic of race comes up, and it gives predictions. I felt like this article was very interesting to read and it caught my attention from the start and had me hooked throughout the entire article.

Friday’s class

For my paper I am looking into the history of movie trailers, and the reasons for their existence. I have found out that people started to get bored with movies, so owners and directors tried to disrupt the flow of the standard theater program, and try to promote upcoming screenings. They corrected the boredom issue by creating back to back pictures by displaying information about future releases. I learned that directors would show the first reels of a new movie and use that as a trailer, or they would pick out the better scenes from the film and splice them together. The second idea fits in better with the mold of movie trailers today. Lastly I found out about the messages that these directors try to display to the audience and how the meanings deal with far more complex issues than one would realize if they watch the trailer once.

Fake prescriptions

October 24th, 2008 by mtm7d3

I recently read an article online about a new problem that is being noticed in our society today when dealing with prescription drugs. Doctors are starting to write prescriptions for patients that are not needed for the illness that is present. This leads us to believe that the downfall of our generation will more than likely be prescription drugs. The author of this article was once addicted to pain killers that were given to him like candy by a family friend who was a physician. His point of view is perfect for this article because it gives a real-life experience, and helps you understand more fully about the problem that is ahead of us. I enjoyed this article, felt that it was written well and tried to portray a positive message to society.

Arabian popstar slain

October 17th, 2008 by mtm7d3

I recently read an article about a female popstar Suzan Tamim from Dubai who was murdered, due to her broken marriage with her husband. This woman was a very attractive 30 year old who was starting to become popular in the U.S.. She lived a very sheltered life so she did not become a possession to men at an early age. This article is well written and got the readers attention from the start, I feel like the style used in this article was very appealing to the reader as well. It is very sad to see the turmoil that still takes place in the Middle East today, along with the murdering of the regions best known popstar. I am glad that this tragedy actually got some nationwide attention so people can still realize the corruption that takes place over in the Middle East.

Ban on boozing and e-mailing

October 9th, 2008 by mtm7d3
  1. I recently read an article on abcnews.com about the new setting on Google regarding researching and emailing. This week Google launched a math program that takes place from 10 P.M. to 4 A.M. that requires you to answer five simple math problems that a sober person would easily get correct in 60 seconds, or you are not allowed to access the site. I found this article to be very entertaining because Google is trying to help people who send e-mails while they are intoxicated and waking up with great remorse from the night before. The style of writing used in this article is very informative and helpful to frequent Google users. I agree with the new program, because people should not be allowed to access the site while intoxicated due to the mistakes that are destined to take place. Overall I enjoyed this article and found it to be educating and hilarious.

Economic turmoil

September 18th, 2008 by mtm7d3

I recently read an article addressed to the President, from house speaker Nancy Pelosi on the economic crisis in America. The article’s focus is on improving our economy in a efficient way. It brings up the current problems in our economy and simply asks for a meeting to figure out solutions that will turn our economy around. I found this to be very interesting due to the technique of constructive criticism that she used in her letter to the President. She asks that food stamps be abundant to those who are struggling and that we start to invest more into our infrastructure to create more jobs. She also assures the President that we are ready to create constructive solutions to stabilize our markets and insurance to the American taxpayer so a crisis does not happen. This article has a positive outlook for our country and makes the reader feel that with a little effort our countries turmoil can be eliminated.

A High Future

September 5th, 2008 by mtm7d3

I recently read an article online about Humboldt County in Northern California on the large amounts of money that are being made due to the selling of medical marijuana. In the article it discusses how ordinary people like ourselves are moving to Humboldt and starting their own medical marijuana dispensaries due to the large amounts of money that can be made. In the article it states an estimate of about $143 million has been generated by the selling of medical marijuana. Currently the use of marijuana for medical purposes is legal in the state of California but is still looked down upon by the DEA and local police departments. I strongly agree with the sell of medical marijuana and would like to see it become legal throughout the United States. Many people are not aware how much money can be made from the selling of marijuana if it became legal, governments could tax it and make billions. According to a National drug survey 20.8 million Americans who are 12 and older have tried marijuana, this a large number and makes you wonder what we could do financially if marijuana was legal. I found this article to be very intriguing and I agree with the people of Humboldt County about the selling of medical marijuana and the fight on trying to get it legal.
