the Humane Society investigated Petland, a high end dog store, and uncovered their link to puppy mills.
Puppy mills are breeders that breed a high number of pure breeds in deplorable conditions. The dogs are kept in confined conditions with litte or no exersize. Cages are stacked on top of one another and the females pass liter after liter of puppies.
Petland was not a part of the “milling” but knowingly bought the puppies from brokers and then sold them in their stores for $3,500 or more. When the breeders were tracked down the Humane society found 17,000 puppies at just one facility.
Laws are not strict enough on people like this and for those that abuse animals. I think they should face serious jail time. These types of offenses should be parallelled with those of child abuse and murder.

Almost 21 million Americans have diabetes, a disease in which blood glucose levels are above normal. Diabetes can lead to further health problems like heart disease, stroke, vision loss, kidney disease, and nerve damage.
Luckily studies have lead to the discovery of “pre-diabetes.” Meaning people are showing symptoms of high blood sugar levels but not high enough to be diabetes. People can delay the onset by diabetes by following certain steps that can be tweeked to fit the individuals situation. The keys to delaying the disease are nutrition, weight management, and exercise.
Most people that are suseptible to diabetes are those who are overweight and and are lalcking in theother s steps of prevention. So unless a person has a change of heart revelation once they discovered they had the pre-conditions, I don’t see this method as much help. for the most part, the reason they are suseptible is because they don’t get excersize or go out of their way enough to eat healthily.

mr. green genes is a cloned cat in which scientists injected a color gene into his DNA sequence resulting in flouresent green coloring in the cats gums, tongue, nose, and retina glare. Scientists are hoping this will help lead to a breakthrough in gene therapy.
the article is open to questions in whether they are hoping to use clones to infuse with an antidote for genetic diseases or if the gene insertion into the DNA is the treatment. We have already come a long way in technology. i remember when cloning was the new “big deal” but now it’s just the norm and now gene insertion is huge. especially if it can stretch to a cure for the infamous –cancer.

I read an article on MSNBC’s forum on how some cattle and dairy farmers are adding garlic to their livestock diet to reduce the methane emissions that are emitted from feces and gastric excretions. The article said that methane constitutes for up to 15% of gases contirbuted to the ozone deterioration.
The article didn’t state any of the side affects. Like does garlic being in their diets change the flavor of the meat? I mean farmers started feeding their livestock corn for the enhancement in the meats taste and mineral benefits for the cows. Or if the garlic will change the taste of milk. Are there any health risks for the people who ingest by-products of the cows or for the cows themselves? I don’t believe it is widely accepted because our beef farm doesn’t think much of it’s evidence/principles.

Pandora opened the box releasing all the evils of mankind but she closed it and trpped hope inside.
Did she purposely trap hope inside because she knew it was just a false feeling or is she keeping it contained until mankind really needs it? So when we do need it most we will appreciate the gift and not take advantage of life again? I’d like to believe she trapped hope foreseeing a time we would need it more, but when the Gods created her they added their own aspects. Like curiosity, seduction, gossip, but she was ultimately created as a punishment for mankind. This makes me conclude that Pandora had no intentions of letting hope become intertwined in humanity. Prometheus warned his brother not to accept any gifts the Gods offered but Epimetheus did. He agreed to take care of Pandora; he even married her, unknowingly cursing humanity.

Mythology- Daphne and Apollo
Daphne was not interested in Apollo but the only way she could think of, to discourage his pursuit, was to ask the Gods for help. In the end she was turne into a laurel tree. I think that there are several ways she could have avoided his pursuit. She could have just told him she was not interested, politely of course. Daphne could have set off on her own conquest of finding a man she did love. But the last thing I would have done would have been to ask the gods for help. They were unjust; they enjoyed tormenting humans and twisitng their wishes. Daphne could have been thinking of a laurel tree when the god granted her wish or she may have been an unlucky follower who’s wish or plea was unfairly executed.

The Host by Stephanie Meyer
The book is about a species, the Souls, from a foreign galaxy that choices Earth as their next host planet. The souls symbiotically take over the human’s bodies. A soul called Wanderer is placed in a body that was a member of the Resistance to find out their secrets but the original soul refuses to leave. Wanderer becomes sympathetic to the body’s soul and begins to identify with her feelings towards humans. The book is about them setting out to find the Resistance and Melanie’s family ( original soul), while being hunted for abandoning the souls’ society. It’s a very good book but it really made me think about some of the species in other galaxies they mentioned while also thinking about what could be just aound the next planet or galaxy for us.
Sorry it’s late. I hit “save” instead of publish the first time.
